Embracing Femininity

When you hear femininity, you immediately think of dresses, makeup, frills and being soft. As women, we tend to fit into such stereotypes as we blossom into beautiful women.

But do you know that femininity is so much different from what we think it is ?? Especially for the Christian woman.

Biblical Femininity

Femininity according to the Scripture means being a woman of God. It is much beyond dresses, housewives, boss babes. For the Christian woman, this is a very big responsibility and whatever you are called to do, you should do it diligently.

Many Christian Femininity sources on social media are focused more on homemaking, serving your husband and kids and sourdough and also focused on demonising other women. While homemaking and marriage are extremely essential for a healthy biblical family, the women who are single, barren, young shouldn't be ignored.

So in this blog, I will share steps on how to be a godly woman.

1) Titus 2 Woman

Perhaps the most popular reference to biblical womanhood is Titus 2. The verses highlight the importance of serving your family and children. This was said in order to discipline the Corinth women as they were busy bodies and were being ungodly. Also guidelines were given to men.

"They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good. These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children,to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands."Titus 2:3-5

This verse tells women to:

• Train younger women.                  • Love their husbands &children.  • Live wisely and be pure.              • To be effective homemakers.      • To do good things.                          • Submit to their husbands.

This verse is highly controversial because the verse tells women to submit to their husbands and be good homemakers. This is controversial in both the feminist and the Christian world. Feminists think that this verse is oppressive whereas Christian women think that we should be stay at home moms .

Homemaking is often misunderstood. The verse states to WORK, not to necessarily be a SAHM. While I agree that modern feminism has really demonised homemaking and women who choose to be just a wife and mom which is OK, some Christian women demonise working women. Homemaking means to work for the betterment of the home. To create a strong and orderly home. OK, let's talk about the Tradwife trend.

The #tradwife trend is escalating on social media. It shows an aesthetic of a woman living in the country villages of the 19th century with frilly dresses and makeup. Also they homestead by having farms, raising their own chickens and drinking raw milk, having non toxic cleaners and beauty products.

While aspiring to have these characteristics isnt wrong, oftentimes women confuse godliness with having that aesthetic. Especially the Christian trad trends, women feel bad and think of themselves as a less-than-Christian if they aren't making their own sourdough or having a homestead.
See, this trad lifestyle is sustainable and it is extremely wonderful to inculcate those characteristics.
But let me tell you, you can keep your home in an orderly manner without all these things. You can live in the city, work outside, use ur normal things, get things from the bakery or grocery(make sure it's healthy) and STILL be a godly wife and mother.
You CAN be a good homemaker while still working outside of the house. My mom is a dentist and still is an effective homemaker. As long as you prioritise your family over yourself, there is NO problem.

2) The Proverbs 31 Woman

This is one of the most famous examples. Ruth was probably described.
This woman has so many good qualities like selflessness, hardworking nature, modesty, meekness, etc.
Though this was primally said to wives and mothers, any other woman can and SHOULD inculcate these beautiful qualities.

" She is far more worth than rubies." Proverbs 31:10

To be a godly woman,we should inculcate these Habits.

Ways to embrace your femininity...
Feminism initially meant to liberate women which was on a positive note. I am glad that I can vote, work, pursue my dreams(becoming an influencer and computer engineer),express myself, interact publicly, etc.
But sadly, today's feminism has degenerated into a man-hating movement and also that they want to blur the gender lines between men and women which can NEVER be fully closed.
Women, you don't need to be a man to be successful. You have your own feminine strength.

Here are ways to be feminine..

1) Be the best version of yourself in Christ.
You should improve yourself and inculcate these beautiful qualities which makes you a lovely, feminine woman. Learn self sacrificial love, meekness, etc.

2) Be fashionable
No,it's not a sin to wear makeup, jewellery, pants, etc. Try to wear more dresses, pink, cute things if u want. Remember, this doesn't define your femininity. Womanhood is NOT a costume.
Tip: Have a 3 step skincare routine and practice hygiene.

3) Learn Homemaking
If you want to get married and start a family or even if you don't want to, homemaking is essential. No,you don't need to be Estee Williams but you need to learn some basic life skills.
a. Sweeping and Mopping
b. Cooking at least basics like tea, veggie, meat, etc.
c. Organising your home. Pinterest has lot of suggestions.
d. Putting curtains,bedsheets,etc.

4) Do the things
Do the things which God has called you to do. Your work starts now. Your highest calling right now is to glorify God. Debts, graduation, studies, homework, party, writing, etc. whatever task is in front of you,do it. Trust His plans.
Do the work diligently and sincerely.

5) Know your worth
Alone, you are not enough and that's OK. Because Jesus is.
Your worth comes from him. Be feminine for His sake. You are precious in God's eyes.

"Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble."
2 Peter 1:10

Remember to embrace your femininity and reject modern feminism.
